How To Keep Your Jewellery Shining Brightly

Whether you wear your jewellery often or not, it can lose its shine after a while and needs cleaning to bring back its sparkle. Storing your jewellery correctly in a sealed jewellery box is one way to prolong its shine, but even then, it will need cleaning occasionally. There are various ways you can clean and polish your jewellery to make it look new again, and you can pay someone to do this for you, or there are things you can do at home to get it shining again. Below are some ways to help keep your jewellery shining brightly and looking like you are wearing them for the first time.

Visit Your Local Jewellery Store

You will find that most jewellery stores can clean your jewellery for a small charge, which will get it sparkling like new again. They will often use an ultrasonic cleaning machine that uses high-frequency soundwaves to clean the jewellery, which is an effective method that does not damage it. They can also polish your jewellery once it is clean, so it will look fantastic when you come to collect it and look like the day you first wore it. However, if your jewellery is not very dirty and only requires a gentle cleaning, you can use many products to make it shine again in your home.

Soap & Water

You can use mild soap and warm water to clean your jewellery, and a soft brush will help to clean the dirt and grime from it. However, if there are settings in the jewellery with gemstones, be careful with the brush, or you may damage them. Once cleaned, rinse the jewellery off with water and then dry and polish it with a soft cloth, making it look beautiful.

Use Silver Cleaner

If you have silver jewellery starting to tarnish, you can purchase silver cleaner and use a soft cloth to clean it and remove the tarnish from the metal. Once you have removed the tarnish and cleaner the jewellery, you need to rinse it to remove any chemical residue before drying and polishing it with another soft cloth.

Try Baking Soda

Another way to remove tarnish from metals such as silver without buying silver polish is to try using baking soda to clean it, which many people have in their homes. You make a paste using a quarter of a cup of baking soda and two tablespoons of water, and then use a sponge to apply the paste to the jewellery. Use your sponge or soft cloth to work the baking soda into the jewellery, and when complete, rinse off thoroughly using water and buff dry.

Vodka

If you have diamond, emerald, or other gemstone jewellery that is starting to lose its sparkle, you can use vodka to bring it back and make it shine again. If your gemstone is a crystal, dipping it in vodka for a few minutes, then rinsing it off and drying it with a soft cloth can help make it sparkle again.

These are a few options you can try to make your jewellery shine again, but if yours is expensive and you are unsure what you are doing, take it to a jewellery store and have it professionally cleaned.
